Why Plant Blue Zinger Sedge?

Blue, blue, beautiful blue! Blue Zinger Sedge paints a soothing picture with its icy blue foliage. The frosty blue color has a calming effect when you look at it, like gazing at a summer sky or a clear blue lake. It’s also an easy mixer with other colors in the garden, such as green, purple, or yellow foliage, or pink, white, or orange flowers. This compact, fine-textured Fringe can be grown in masse as a ground-cover, where it will flow through the landscape like a lazy blue river. You can also grow it in the rock garden or add it to a container planting for a heavenly blue accent.

There are nearly one thousand species of Sedges that exist all around the world in a wonderful array of colors, shapes, and forms. This particular species, Blue Sedge, is native to moist areas of the Mediterranean. Blue Zinger is a special selection of Blue Sedge that was introduced by Emerald Coast Growers of Pensacola, Florida. It was singled out primarily for its extra-bright blue foliage, but it differs from the species in a couple of other ways as well. It’s a bit taller than the average Blue Sedge, and it’s also more of a clumper (slower to spread) than other Blue Sedges.

How to use Blue Zinger Sedge in the landscape?

Blue Zinger Sedge Grasses are a classic in American homes. Plant these colorful grasses in your entryway for an elegance blue-green look. Decorate patios and conversation areas with these grasses. Blue Zinger grasses add drama and movement anywhere they are planted. You can also bring these grasses into your home! Zingers are versatile in a way where they can be planted in the ground or in a container.

How To Plant Blue Zinger Sedge

Plant Blue Zinger Sedge in full sun or part shade. It will be lushest with regular water, but unlike many Sedges, this one can withstand dry periods once it’s established, and it will still look respectable. Blue Sedge is native to alkaline soils, but is adaptable to range of pH levels. It is also moderately salt tolerant.

How To Water

Blue Zinger's prefer to be kept rather moist and evenly watered. Once this plant has become established, they can be considered drought tolerant.

How To Fertilize

Fertilize your Blue Zinger Sedge with our Elements Starter Plant Food during the springtime for that extra boost of growth. After that, you won't need to fertilize again!

How To Prune

Blue Zinger is evergreen in mild winters, so you may not need to cut it back in the late winter. If the foliage is in good shape, you can leave it alone; otherwise trim plants back before new growth emerges. Prune back your sedge about two inches before every spring before the new growth emerges.

Your trees and plants are grown across the United States at various Bower & Branch Growers. Depending on your location, your plant orders may be shipped from various locations. Please expect orders with multiple items to be delivered over a number of days as a result. Orders made up of numerous items or selections will not arrive at your home on the same day.

Shipping Delays:

From time to time, Bower & Branch Growers may determine to delay order shipment based on various factors for plant health. Weather in your region, as well as, where your plants are grown, is always considered when shipping. Extreme weather conditions may delay some or all of your order. Bower & Branch allows our Growers to make final shipping decisions based solely to benefit your trees and plants’ health and success.

How Does Sizing Work?

The size of our trees have nothing to do with the container size like you may find elsewhere–big doesn't mean just height - it’s also vigor, age, and overall health. Other online retailers are going to tell you that a plant is a seven gallon, that means nothing to your tree or plant (or you.)

Our trees for sale online are graded on large, x-large, and even bigger sizes. This is because our trees are sized by their age—the higher the letter, the more mature the tree. The age determines the trees’ overall height, size of the trunk and the overall branch density.

All of these characteristics are what you should be looking for when choosing a tree for immediate impact and instant curb appeal. Our extra-large tree and plant sizes are sure to wow you and your neighbors!
