Bower & Branch Landscape Design Tip:

Flame Amur Maple performs best in full sun for the brightest fall color, though it will tolerate part sun as well. Water regularly during the first seasons to establish strong roots, then it becomes more drought tolerant over time. Mulch around the base to conserve moisture and protect the root zone, keeping mulch away from the trunk. Prune in late winter to shape and remove crossing branches, especially if you are training it as a multi-stem tree. This is a fantastic choice when you want vibrant fall color in a smaller footprint, like a bonfire in tree form.

Why Plant Flame Amur Maple?

Amur Maple is a tough, cold-hardy tree that gives you an easy way to add some hot fall color to your landscape. You'll love the flaming red tones these Maple leaves turn in sunny locations (in shadier spots, you'll get more orange and yellow). This small ornamental tree takes on a rounded shape and creates just enough shade for an outdoor sitting area made complete with a couple of cozy chairs or an inviting bench. It can be used individually or planted in natural groves, you will enjoy the branching structure and the atmosphere created under this carefree tree for problem areas in your landscape!

How to use Flame Amur Maple in the landscape?

Excellent specimen tree with outstanding autumn color that's easy to grow. Great choice of a small tree that creates a good atmosphere for any landscape. Bright red seed pods bring enjoyment during fall months. The Amur Maple tree leafs out before all other deciduous trees in spring, giving it a good, long season of coverage when used as a privacy screen, too!

How To Plant Flame Amur Maple

Acer ginnala or Amur Maple is grown mostly because of the outstanding fall foliage color. This naturally low branching small growing tree has a form more like a shrub if let go on its own. We love this tree for even more reasons than the great fall color. Amur Maple is very easy to grow with little pest problems and very little care is required.

How To Water

When freshly planted, be sure to water regularly until the tree becomes established. Amur Maple can withstand some wetter locations but prefers dryer soils. It performs very well in dry conditions and through droughts.

How To Prune

Once established, minimal pruning is required, only removing branches where desired to maintain overall shape. This tree responds well to pruning in the very early Spring right through mid Summer. Best not to prune from early Fall on through Winter.

*For Big trees and Shrubs, Size XL and bigger: Review our Seasonal Shipping Timelines and Policy here.

Your trees and plants are grown across the United States at various Bower & Branch Growers. Depending on your location, your plant orders may be shipped from various locations. Please expect orders with multiple items to be delivered over a number of days as a result. Orders made up of numerous items or selections will not arrive at your home on the same day.

Shipping Delays:

From time to time, Bower & Branch Growers may determine to delay order shipment based on various factors for plant health. Weather in your region, as well as, where your plants are grown, is always considered when shipping. Extreme weather conditions may delay some or all of your order. Bower & Branch allows our Growers to make final shipping decisions based solely to benefit your trees and plants’ health and success.

How Does Sizing Work?

The size of our trees have nothing to do with the container size like you may find elsewhere–big doesn't mean just height - it’s also vigor, age, and overall health. Other online retailers are going to tell you that a plant is a seven gallon, that means nothing to your tree or plant (or you.)

Our trees for sale online are graded on large, x-large, and even bigger sizes. This is because our trees are sized by their age—the higher the letter, the more mature the tree. The age determines the trees’ overall height, size of the trunk and the overall branch density.

All of these characteristics are what you should be looking for when choosing a tree for immediate impact and instant curb appeal. Our extra-large tree and plant sizes are sure to wow you and your neighbors!
