Why Plant Golden Rain Tree?

As the only yellow-flowering tree of summer, Golden Rain Tree (or Golden Raintree) is unmistakable. When other trees have traded spring flowers for a simple cloak of green, your Golden Rain Tree will be throwing out feathery sprays of sunny yellow flowers by the hundreds, the canopy vibrating from the steady hum of happy pollinators. This fast-growing, medium-sized tree looks best planted mid-lawn, either showcased in the front yard or given a site around back, where its spreading limbs will give the kids a shady place to climb and play. Rugged and adaptable, Golden Rain brings its cheerful golden blossoms to any sunny site - even to the mean streets of the city.

The Golden Rain Tree of China, Japan, and Korea has been known to the West since the mid-1700s. At that time, a French Jesuit and amateur botanist from France, Pierre d’Incarville, was sent on a mission to China in hopes of converting the Chinese Emperor Qianlong to Catholicism. d’Incarville didn’t win the conversion, but did manage to introduce some new Asian plants to the West, including this tree. To gain entrance to the Imperial Gardens, he schmoozed the Emperor with a fun plant called “Sensitive Plant,” which folds up when touched.

How to use Golden Rain Tree in the landscape?

No umbrella necessary! Not too many trees shower you with bright yellow flower clusters - especially during the summer months! These showy flowers are set against a backdrop of bright green leaves. This Golden Rain Tree is great used in small gardens, as a shade tree for your patio, or even as a specimen tree!

How To Plant Golden Rain Tree

Golden Rain Trees can tolerate a lot and they’re easy to grow as well. When covered with foliage they take on a “tropical” look, but they show a coarse branch texture decorated with seed pods in fall and winter. (Those seed pods are also a great dried decoration for you crafty people out there). Golden Rain Trees prefer areas with full sun and well-drained soil. The Golden Rain Tree is pest free and once it becomes established in your landscape – it will also tolerate drought conditions.

How To Water

You should water your Golden Rain Tree once every 7-10 days very deeply so it gets its preferred drink.

How To Fertilize

Apply a medium rate fertilizer in fall. You only need to apply once a year for about the first 3 years. We recommend using our Elements Starter Plant Food.

How To Prune

Golden Rain Trees bloom in the middle of summer. So when you feel it’s necessary to give your tree a “haircut”, do so in early spring. This will give your tree a few months to form flower buds.

*For Big trees and Shrubs, Size XL and bigger: Review our Seasonal Shipping Timelines and Policy here.

Your trees and plants are grown across the United States at various Bower & Branch Growers. Depending on your location, your plant orders may be shipped from various locations. Please expect orders with multiple items to be delivered over a number of days as a result. Orders made up of numerous items or selections will not arrive at your home on the same day.

Shipping Delays:

From time to time, Bower & Branch Growers may determine to delay order shipment based on various factors for plant health. Weather in your region, as well as, where your plants are grown, is always considered when shipping. Extreme weather conditions may delay some or all of your order. Bower & Branch allows our Growers to make final shipping decisions based solely to benefit your trees and plants’ health and success.

How Does Sizing Work?

The size of our trees have nothing to do with the container size like you may find elsewhere–big doesn't mean just height - it’s also vigor, age, and overall health. Other online retailers are going to tell you that a plant is a seven gallon, that means nothing to your tree or plant (or you.)

Our trees for sale online are graded on large, x-large, and even bigger sizes. This is because our trees are sized by their age—the higher the letter, the more mature the tree. The age determines the trees’ overall height, size of the trunk and the overall branch density.

All of these characteristics are what you should be looking for when choosing a tree for immediate impact and instant curb appeal. Our extra-large tree and plant sizes are sure to wow you and your neighbors!
