Bower & Branch Landscape Design Tip

Plant Issai Hardy Kiwi in full sun and rich, well-drained soil for best fruit production. Because it is a vigorous climber, be sure to provide a strong structure for support. Water regularly during dry periods and prune in late winter to keep growth under control and encourage new fruiting wood. Pair it with other fruiting vines or flowering shrubs for a beautiful and productive garden space. With a little care, Issai will bring both flavor and beauty to your landscape for many years.

How to use Issai Hardy Kiwi in the landscape?

Issai is an all-in-one vine! A self-pollinator, you will not need to plant more than one to produce the sweet, grape-sized fruits in the fall. The fruits can be eaten in full like a grape and are the sweeter, smaller version of the true Kiwi. Blooms start to open in June and produce lovely green-white fragrant flowers. Issai is also known for the stunning deep green foliage that is sure to make it pop in your landscape.

How To Plant Issai Hardy Kiwi

Issai is a more self-sufficient kiwi that does not require as much attention to thrive. For successful growth, you'll want to ensure that the soil has average to medium moisture that is also well-draining. If planting in infertile soil, the growth rate may be negatively impacted and slow the growth. Issai can be successful in full sun to part shade with no detrimental consequences.

    How To Water

Issai Hardy Kiwi will appreciate watering deeply, and regularly during its first few years in the ground. Irrigate weekly, and especially during long dry spells or extreme heat after it’s established.

    How To Prune

Hardy Kiwi requires frequent pruning, once in winter and another in summer. Winter pruning should consist of cutting back stems up to 10 buds. In summer, any excessively long shoots should be removed. Issai does not have a rapid growth habit, unlike other Hardy Kiwi varieties, requiring minor pruning.

    Shipping Delays:

From time to time, Bower & Branch Growers may determine to delay order shipment based on various factors for plant health. Weather in your region, as well as, where your plants are grown, is always considered when shipping. Extreme weather conditions may delay some or all of your order. Bower & Branch allows our Growers to make final shipping decisions based solely to benefit your trees and plants’ health and success.

    How Does Sizing Work?

The size of our trees have nothing to do with the container size like you may find elsewhere–big doesn't mean just height - it’s also vigor, age, and overall health. Other online retailers are going to tell you that a plant is a seven gallon, that means nothing to your tree or plant (or you.)

Our trees for sale online are graded on large, x-large, and even bigger sizes. This is because our trees are sized by their age—the higher the letter, the more mature the tree. The age determines the trees’ overall height, size of the trunk and the overall branch density.

All of these characteristics are what you should be looking for when choosing a tree for immediate impact and instant curb appeal. Our extra-large tree and plant sizes are sure to wow you and your neighbors!
