Why Plant Ivory Spear® Flowering Crabapple?

The gorgeous Ivory Spear® Crabapple is a must have on any property! This is a narrow, upright tree with splendid ornamental features. Starting off strong in spring, this Crabapple offers deep pink buds that open up to stunning white flowers. As the season progresses, dark green foliage takes over, the blooms fade and clusters of bright red fruit add a pop of color amongst the darker foliage. Come fall, if you thought the show was over, you were wrong! The Ivory Spear® Crabapple transforms before your eyes with hues of yellow, soaking up all the attention from anyone passing by. This tree welcomes both bees for pollination as well as birds that feast among the fruits the tree produces!

How to use Ivory Spear® Flowering Crabapple in the landscape?

The Ivory Spear® Crabapple offers a more columnar habit than most other varieties of Crabapple, with that comes minimal maintenance (always a plus!). Not only does the Ivory Spear® produce lush beautiful flowers in spring, we’re also delighted by the bright red fruits that come with the end of the blooms. Plant your Ivory Spear® Crabapple in a tight-fit location, along a fence line to provide screening or as an accent tree for all to enjoy!

How To Plant Ivory Spear® Flowering Crabapple

When looking into placing an Ivory Spear® Crabapple in your landscape, the process and needs for this tree are fairly easy to manage. Planting in locations that allow full sun will be best your Crabapple. These trees are very adaptable when considering soil types. We recommend selecting a location that offers well-draining attributes, but any moist soil type will suffice. These are hardy trees that offer drought tolerance when established, as well as disease resistance to most ailments that affect Crabapples.

How To Water

When first planted, we recommended that you keep a regular watering schedule until established. To achieve this, keep the soil evenly moist, this may be done by watering twice weekly, or once deeply, making sure the entirety of the root system is saturated. We recommend keeping an eye on your local weather and watering when necessary such as periods of drought, or high heat.

How To Fertilize

When first planted, it is wise to add fertilizer to the prepared hole for the first feeding. Following the planting the process, apply fertilizer in late fall after leaf drop or in early spring before the buds start to break. This method will ensure your tree is gaining the proper nutrients it needs to grow full and healthy!

How To Prune

Like most other Crabapple varieties, the Ivory Spear® Crabapple does not require much maintenance at all. Mainly what you want to look out for is damaged or broken branches and remove them, most other pruning will be done to aid in the shaping of your tree. We recommend this process take place during late winter or early spring before the push of new growth to not hinder your blooms.

How Does Sizing Work?

The size of our trees have nothing to do with the container size like you may find elsewhere–big doesn't mean just height - it’s also vigor, age, and overall health. Other online retailers are going to tell you that a plant is a seven gallon, that means nothing to your tree or plant (or you.)

Our trees for sale online are graded on large, x-large, and even bigger sizes. This is because our trees are sized by their age—the higher the letter, the more mature the tree. The age determines the trees’ overall height, size of the trunk and the overall branch density.

All of these characteristics are what you should be looking for when choosing a tree for immediate impact and instant curb appeal. Our extra-large tree and plant sizes are sure to wow you and your neighbors!
