FEATURES:

  • Dense, vase-shaped evergreen habit with a refined, layered look that reads polished year-round
  • Glossy, medium to dark green foliage that creates instant structure and screening
  • Fragrant white flower spikes in spring, a subtle bloom show with a surprisingly sweet scent
  • Tough and adaptable in sun to partial shade, and notably tolerant of pruning when you want a crisp hedge line
  • Evergreen with no real fall color shift, the “green stays green” friend your winter landscape needs
  • Hand Selected; Fresh from the Grower
  • Ships on our trucks because of the size of the tree – does not fit in a box

Bower & Branch Landscape Design Tip:

For the most elevated look, plant in a consistent line with a generous mulch strip underneath, then soften the front edge with lower mounding evergreens or ornamental grasses so the cherry laurel becomes a smooth, glossy backdrop while the foreground adds movement and seasonal color; if you’re shaping it into a hedge, aim for a slightly wider base than top so sunlight reaches the lower branches and it stays full from the ground up.

Why Plant Schipkaensis Cherry Laurel?

Schipkaensis Cherry Laurel is the ultimate team player. This handsome Accent works hard to beautify your landscape, consorts well with others in groups, and never complains if conditions are less than ideal. Put it to the task when you realize that your landscape needs some more structure and winter greenery, and it will not disappoint. Its glossy green leaves bring a lush look to bare spaces and growth is fast. You can easily shape your “Skip” Laurel into a tidy, formal hedge, or leave it unpruned for a looser feel. Dapper and dependable! Size A (30-36" tall)  Size B (4-5' tall)  Cherry Laurel, also known as Common Laurel or English Laurel, is indeed related to Cherry Trees (though you can’t eat the fruit it produces). This large Accent is native to eastern Europe and parts of the Middle East, ranging from Albania to Iran. Gardeners have valued it for hundreds of years as a useful hedge, evergreen filler, or even a small tree. Schipkaensis Cherry Laurel, commonly known as Skip Laurel, has been a favorite since Victorian times. It was discovered in 1889 near the Schipka Pass in the mountains of Bulgaria. It has finer foliage than most wild Cherry Laurels and doesn’t get as big.

How to use Schipkaensis Cherry Laurel in the landscape?

Mid- to late spring brings an eruption of creamy white bottlebrush flowers. Skip Laurel’s tiny blooms have a sweet fragrance that attracts pollinators of all stripes.

How To Plant Schipkaensis Cherry Laurel

Adaptable and easy. Schipkaensis Cherry Laurel flourishes in sun or shade, although it does prefer shade in hot climates. It isn’t terribly fussy about soil as long as it drains well, and it isn’t a water hog; in fact, it puts up with dry shade like a champ. A tolerance for pollution and salt spray makes it a worthy choice for urban gardens, and its resistance to deer browse means it’s a godsend in certain rural areas. Skip Laurel is one of the most cold-hardy of the Cherry Laurels, too. Its foliage remains undamaged to at least -6ºF.

Please expect orders with multiple items to be delivered over a number of days as a result. Orders made up of numerous items or selections will not arrive at your home on the same day.

Shipping Delays:

From time to time, Bower & Branch Growers may determine to delay order shipment based on various factors for plant health. Weather in your region, as well as, where your plants are grown, is always considered when shipping. Extreme weather conditions may delay some or all of your order. Bower & Branch allows our Growers to make final shipping decisions based solely to benefit your trees and plants’ health and success.

How Does Sizing Work?

The size of our trees have nothing to do with the container size like you may find elsewhere–big doesn't mean just height - it’s also vigor, age, and overall health. Other online retailers are going to tell you that a plant is a seven gallon, that means nothing to your tree or plant (or you.)

Our trees for sale online are graded on large, x-large, and even bigger sizes. This is because our trees are sized by their age—the higher the letter, the more mature the tree. The age determines the trees’ overall height, size of the trunk and the overall branch density.

All of these characteristics are what you should be looking for when choosing a tree for immediate impact and instant curb appeal. Our extra-large tree and plant sizes are sure to wow you and your neighbors!
