Do you need a privacy fence or windbreaker fast? With Wintergreen Arborvitae, you can block out the neighbors with minimal yard space. The Wintergreen Arborvitae quickly provides evergreen coverage with a fast growth rate (we're talking two to three feet of growth add a year!), while maintaining a slim stature. The dense branching structure provides a fluffy and protective home for your local bird friends, too! Cloaked in soft foliage for magnificent color through every season, adding a Wintergreen Arborvitae (or two!) to your landscape is a no brainer!

How to use Wintergreen Arborvitae Hedge in the landscape?

Plant your Wintergreen Arborvitae as pillars on either side of your front door for a striking and elegant welcoming. Their fast growth rate and dense growth habit allows them perform well as privacy hedges or windbreaks, while their skinny nature makes them ideal for smaller landscapes! They can also be planted as a specimen tree, providing a statement piece while providing a safe-haven for the neighborhood birds!

Planting Zones

Hardiness Zone: 3-8

How To Plant Wintergreen Arborvitae Hedge

Wintergreen Arborvitae prefers to make their home in full sun, but tolerate light shade as well. They thrive in moist soil, given that it is well-drained, meaning it’s not consistently wet. Pests don't seem to be of any concern for Arborvitae and this variety is rather cold hardy, so our northern friends can have some privacy as well!

How To Water

After planting, water your new Wintergreen Arborvitae deeply and thoroughly to encourage the roots to begin to work their way into the surrounding soil. Water this way every three to four days for the first growing season. As we enter into winter, be sure to water your Arborvitae very well as they can dry down over winter, causing excessive browning.

How To Fertilize

When planting, we recommend using the Bower & Branch Starter Plant Food - this will ensure that your tree has the nutrients it needs to begin establishing itself. For ongoing care, you should reapply in early spring to give your Arborvitae a little boost as it heads into the growing season.

How To Prune

Despite its fast growth rate (adding two to three feet of growth a year), the Wintergreen Arborvitae rarely needs a haircut. For shaping purposes, you should shear annually, preferably in March, to maintain the tight and columnar shape!

*For Big trees and Shrubs, Size XL and bigger: Review our Seasonal Shipping Timelines and Policy here.

Your trees and plants are grown across the United States at various Bower & Branch Growers. Depending on your location, your plant orders may be shipped from various locations. Please expect orders with multiple items to be delivered over a number of days as a result. Orders made up of numerous items or selections will not arrive at your home on the same day.

Shipping Delays:

From time to time, Bower & Branch Growers may determine to delay order shipment based on various factors for plant health. Weather in your region, as well as, where your plants are grown, is always considered when shipping. Extreme weather conditions may delay some or all of your order. Bower & Branch allows our Growers to make final shipping decisions based solely to benefit your trees and plants’ health and success.

How Does Sizing Work?

The size of our trees have nothing to do with the container size like you may find elsewhere–big doesn't mean just height - it’s also vigor, age, and overall health. Other online retailers are going to tell you that a plant is a seven gallon, that means nothing to your tree or plant (or you.)

Our trees for sale online are graded on large, x-large, and even bigger sizes. This is because our trees are sized by their age—the higher the letter, the more mature the tree. The age determines the trees’ overall height, size of the trunk and the overall branch density.

All of these characteristics are what you should be looking for when choosing a tree for immediate impact and instant curb appeal. Our extra-large tree and plant sizes are sure to wow you and your neighbors!
